Default How To tell if first gen LS400 has air ride

Hello everyone,

Long time lurker first time poster. I am thinking of getting a first or second generation LS400.

My question is this, When looking for a first generation car is there an easy way to tell if it has the stock air ride system?

I did some searching on the forum and found the quick way for the second generation, the second toggle switch next to the shifter, but I couldnt find the quick give away for the first generation air ride.

Sorry for the noob question, but I gotta get learned somewhere.

Thanks

Next to the shifter you will see an extra switch that controls ride height in addition to the ECT PWR switch which is the Electronically controlled transmission switch.

Look for the chassis code on the 1LS.
UCF10 - No air suspension
UCF11 - Air suspension

Just kneel down a bit and look in the wheel well, front or back. Air suspension should have a bag like shape with the shock absorber sticking out bottom, for non-airide would be shock and spring.

This is the easiest and fastest way to see if it has air. The switches will say "high-norm" and "sport". No need to crawl under the car or look for a chasis code which he probably wouldn't know where to find it.

Thanks for the responses guys, I will look for the extra switch next to shifter in pics on autotrader and craigslist, I am trying to avoid driving to look at cars that dont have air suspension.

Are you going to buy an air controller for it because if you drive it dumped all of the time you are going to end up blowing out the shocks?

yes I would buy a controller, Run it for a while then get something else suspension wise when that stops working. I just want something different, I have a y34 nissan right now and I dig it but I want something there are more parts on the street for. I also wouldnt roll around dumped, just park it and dump it to look cool for chicks, cuz really thats why we all do this stuff to our cars anyway

if the AS is original it's going to go soon regardless of how you drive it but will die literally within weeks if you ROLL dumped.

you can make it last by driving at stock height and only parking dumped.
