Default Vehicle Service Contract...yes/no?

I have seen many postings about newer 2007s + models coming out of factory warranty and owners choosing to opt for an extended warranty, usually through Lexus.

I haven't come across any threads though that refer to purchasing a Vehicle Service Contract for individuals that purchase a Lexus way outside an existing warranty. I have been thinking about purchasing something through CarChex or another vendor Warranty Direct/AA Auto Protection, but would like to know if others have utilized such a service.

Currently, my car (1996 LS400) has just over 146K miles, but has been meticulously maintained. Last week, I traded in my ES300 for a 2003 TL, and managed to make it 12 miles down the road before the tranny blew on me. Fortunately, I was able to get my money back and ended up upgrading to a LS400, since I have always been pleased with Lexus. Needless to say, after the incident, I am seriously considering a contract.

With that said:

A) Has anyone every used a service like this and;
B) if so, to you feel it is worth it

Thanks for any input!

I owned a garage for over 20 years, and had several customers with "extended warranty" programs, but all of the people complained about the lack of coverage, they thought they had coverage, but the company always has a loophole to make it the customers fault, and didnt pay off.

so I say "dont waste your money"

Thanks to you both for the replies. I will go ahead and take my chance without a VSC - I believe strongly in the Lexus product, so lets just hope for the best...with proper maintenance of course.
