Default What would you do first?

To restore the "as new" ride in a 1990 LS400? It rides GREAT already, but on some of the more severe bumps, there's a clunk in the back. Surely it's a bushing of some sort. Shocks seems OK, but I will replace those shortly. But they are not the source of the clunk.

In which order should I tackle this bushing replacement...as I'm certain some worn bushings will transmit more noise than others. Although we own an IS300 and several other Lexus (IS350, GS400), this is our first LS400, so we need a shove in the right direction to track down the issue at hand.

Please give me (in order) perhaps the 5 areas that need to be replaced.

Thanks! And here of some pics of my 1 owner 1990 LS400

-sigh-
you've been here a while, you know how search works...

but just because...
-rear strut rod bushings
-control arm bushings all around
-LBJ and UBJ all around
-replace shocks if needed (KYB GR2 pref'd, or super expensive OEM, which are made by KYB loL)
-search.

Indeed I have, but no search I did told me in which order I should start replacing bushings, or generally, which bushing seems to go most often (or are first to go) and be the culprit in clunks.

Thanks for the list...

Should the carrier bushing be looked at also, or is it fairly long-wearing?

Also....is there a good online source fir these parts??

First, I would have the two rear wheels switched as the wheel design is directional.

^^I know...but I'm reasonably sure that has zero effect on ride quality. Unless your OCD says otherwise...

Will do. Am I stuck with OEM entire assemblies for these bushings? Or are any available separately through online retailers?

I prefer not going to poly bushings if I can....

I dont know about all of them, but some are availible as bushings only.

alot of people on here like/love Sewellexus.com (-- I believe thats the correct name.

my rear strutrod knuckle bushings came poly, but I got those from worldpak. I use these people because they sell "oem" parts, without the dealer tag. but if I do remember correctly, my poly bushings were a couple dollars more than the sewell. and with sewell, I guess you get a discount if you register your C.L. boardname. (-- read that just recently.

nice car by the way

yes check the rear carrier bushings too.

many of these bushings arent available from lexus separately, and poly is the only option you have. Control arms can be replaced completely (poly control arm bushings RUIN the ride of a car..) as they come with bushings.
