Question Restore Leather Seats

Just bought a 1998 LS400. One owner Great car fantastic ride. I am in process of restoring the LS to as new as I can. I am at 80% with the outside. My next project is my seats. There are no cracks overall seats are in good condition. Just have skuff marks and a little faded. Any products you can recommend. Car is Black on Black... Thanks

Ive tried lexol and it didnt work for me.. I recently tied SmartLeather with Awesome Cleaning and Conditioning Results! It leaves a Luxurious Shine! It can be applied to leave a Matte finish or luscious Shine! Awesome IMO.

Thanks. I am using Lexol now. It has done a good job from what I started with. Now I just need something to fill in the scuff marks and a few faded areas. I have heard of something called tanning process. Know anything about that?

It sounds like your leather is in great condition for 13+ years old. My guess is the car was usually garaged and not inhabited by children and dogs.

My suggestion is to continue with occasional Lexol cleaning and conditioning and leave well enough alone. No good ever came from trying to even out the color in leather seats when I was much younger (in the 1960's!) but maybe products have improved.

It's usually not necessary to clean and condition Lexus leather very often. I clean/condition the leather in my 00 LS only a couple of times each year with Lexol products and the leather looks about the same as when I bought the car in 2003 - mostly like new with a little color variation.

Thanks Kansas, You are right about the car. Was well keep. No pets/children with previous owner (my Brother in Law). I will take your advise and leave well enough alone for now. The scuffs are minor. Just on one seat. The back seat looks like no one ever rode on it.

My leather in my Lexus is in great condition, but it's just hard. Will that lexol products make it soft again?

The Lexol did not make my seats soft. I have used it on furniture and the Lexol did make my sofa's softer. Different type of leather. Lexol does a good job for cleaning&condition. Have used it on my last 3 cars with leather and never had any cracking which was the main reason I was using it for.

Without question, the best leather treatment on the market is Leatherique. And they also offer a dye/repair kit. There's a reason people use this stuff to restore vintage Ferraris and such. It's head and shoulders above Lexol.

Thanks RRocket! Checked out there Home page. Leatherique sounds great. I have ordered the rejuvinator. I will post the results in a couple weeks. Has anyone ever tried their Bumper Restoration Kit? My paint has faded on my back bumper. No other damage to bumper. Paint has faded right in the middle.

Another thing that really works great is the Turtle Wax Black Box Kit. If you have a Black car this is a must. After 2 coats going by the directions my 1998 LS has a show room finish. I get comments ever where I go. Pumping gas is like being at a car show with car geeks (like me) asking how I got the shine. Most do not believe the paint is OEM. It is worth every $$ it cost. Around $20.00 bucks at Auto Zone Ect. Walmart had it for $17.00 last week. You can see results on youtube
