Default outdoor temp sensor says -30 celcius!

93 LS changing lanes lightly pushing signal indicator & heard a slight "stzzzzt".Then quickly noticed my A/C stopped blowing cold. Realized my outdoor temp indicator was showing -30 celcius when it was really 27 celcius outside. Tried pulling fuses then unhooking battery terminal still no effect. Only way I can get A/C is to set at max cold. Anyone else have this problem? Do I need to replace a sensor?

sounds like something shorted in the climate control or associated circuits...?

perhaps the AC clutch or harness?

Try the first link that Billy posted and pull the fuse it says to for 30 seconds or more. I had that problem when I pulled my dash and changed the heater core. (-22) I pulled the fuse just to reset everything anyway and it started working correct after that. I think it also effects the signals, at least mine did, b/c mine started working again at the same time.

Thanks Guys - I love this site! Anyway, I tried pulling the DOME fuse for 30 secs and it didn't work. Bought the two day pass for TIC & doing the diagnosis it's giving code 12 Ambient Temperature Circuit. Basically it could be the ambient temperature sensor behind the bumper or a short in the harness or the air conditioner control assembly. Think I'm gonna take to Lexus for this one & hope to god its just the sensor. New sensor's about $95.

before taking it in pop the hood (or check from underneath, i forget) and make sure the sensor is both plugged in/undamaged and the wiring to it hasnt been damaged.

It's from underneith. Alot of times the wires get pulled out and sometimes cut, especially if you don't have the lower engine cover. I know I've seen the sensor and the part # here somewhere but I can't find it right now. I'll look a little more incase you need it.

There's no part number on this but I found this. http://www.partswebsite.com/oemlexus...Submit=Buy+Now It's not what I remember seeing in the past but at least, if you need it, you can find it here.

Default Fixed!!!! thanks!

Hey guys thanks so much - was getting a bit lazy there. Felt down from the top & noticed one wire was broke off right at the plug. So I pulled the lower cover and got the sensor off and the plug apart. Checked the ohms on the sensor and they were in spec so now I had to fix the wires. Took it to my redneck buddy "Get-R-Done Auto". We threw away the plug with the broken wire and stole two wires and ends off an old oxygen sensor and plugged those on the bare metal ends of the sensor and filled up the hole around the oxygen sensor plugs where the old plug was with silicone and let it dry overnight. Then this morning soldered and heat shrunk the wires together & reassembled everything and it still said -30 C. So I pulled the DOME fuse for 30 seconds and voila - system works again!

Oh yeah, gotta love the mechanics that work for alcohol. As long as they drink it after working on your car.
