Default Headlight bulb/ls 400 ('98)

Help-need to replace the headlight and only info Lexus dealer will give me is
it's an HID bulb #20002. I've contacted a bulb supplier and they need more
info...is it a D1S, D1R, D2R...seems these are different bulbs. Dealer's aftermarket bulb is quite expensive and then there's the labor charge for approx $300. Would appreciate if someone has the info to please forward.
I just can't afford to replace at dealer's charge. Thanks so much. Ileana

First try
http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...lacementGuide/

looks like
1998 LEXUS LS400 (With HID (high intensity discharge) headlamps)

Low beam headlamp HID-D2R

High beam headlamp 9005

Our CL vendors carry them, or you can find them on ebay.

If you're going with an aftermarket bulkb the color / temp you'll want to be same as OEM is 4300k. 5000k is close to that and doesn't look too blue or purple

From experience with my 1998 LS400, the other bulb is probably not far behind the first one. Go ahead and get a pair of bulbs and replace them both now if you plan to keep the car for a while.

Ileana114 - if your car is equipped with a factory installed HID system you need a D2R bulb. And yes it is best to replace the bulbs in pairs otherwise the bulbs will not match as one bulb is older and already burned in.

All cars that come with a factory equipped HID system use 4100k-4300k bulbs. If you want a stock look I would recommend the Philips 4300k D2R bulbs

If you want something with a little but more color there is also 5000k, 6500k and 8000k. Keep in mind that the higher you go in Kelvin (K) the more color but the less usable light.

I would personally recommend 4300k if you want to maintain the stock HID look and to get the most light output. 5000k is also nice and will give you more of a crisp white color with a very slight hint of blue.

Here are some pictures from one of our customers that installed our 5000k bulbs -

Default Headlight bulb/LS 400

Really appreciate the information and will follow up with sources.
I would also like to know if I should have the dealer change the bulb or
can anyone do this...are there instructions available?
I'm trying to limit the expense and my tire company says they can replace but I'm wondering?
Thanks again, Ileana

The bulbs will be a direct replacement for your OEM bulbs. Check to see how accessible your stock bulbs are. In some cases, headlight removal is necessary to access the low beam bulb.
