Towed a 5 by 8 trailer, 1000 lbs, 1800 miles with car at 290k miles
I was nervous with the thought of pushing this car with the age and miles. I can say that this car towed better than I could have imagined. I was able to go 80 on average with no swaying. Many times I forgot the trailer was there and went up to 90. I had a minor issue with a idle Pulley bearing taking out the drive belt so those of you over 250k, I recommend that idle pulley replaced as a precautionary item on you next service.

Good to hear to made it, Tobiwan.
And here is a photo of his 1990 LS400 taken a few days before I sold it to ylekiot1 in 2003 when it had 183,500 miles on it. I had the trailer hitch installed not long after purchasing the car in 1990 -- it made a great tow vehicle for my small utility trailer.

It was a Draw-Tite hitch installed at a trailer supply store -- same brand that is on my 2000 LS400. Back in 1990, the local Lexus dealer offered hitches as a dealer installed option but they were way too expensive. The gen 1 LS400 was all set up for a hitch and had pre-drilled holes in the bumper beam which were probably meant for mounting the smaller European market hitches but the Draw-Tite hitch used the same holes and also mounted on the muffler hangers. The best place I've found to buy hitches is at etrailer.com.
