I am new to the Lexus brand and have mostly been driving domestic V8 cars and trucks. I know the LS has a 4.0 V8, but the car I just bought feels like it should have another gear on the highway.. I see right around 3000 rpm at 65mph. In comparison my 7.4l suburban runs at 65 at about 2000 rpm. When I switch the OD button on or off, you can feel a change, but the difference in rpm on the tach only seems to be about 300 rpm or so..

the car shifts fine (and smooth) with no blinking lights on the dash.

Can anyone with a similar UCF10 tell me what their rpm is at 65?

My rpms are in the low 2000's, if I remember correctly (less than 2500)

thanks.. sounds like the car may not be going into O/D....

Edit:

I just pulled trans codes per the tutorial at LexLS.com got a code 63 which is for the #2 solenoid.. I can going to pull the ECU fuse to clear the code and see if it resets then go from there..

Just checked this morning...it was at 2200 rpms even.

Drop the tranny pan, pull the #2 solenoid, its the gold, brass looking one. Soak it in PB Blaster for a couple of hours. Though before you immerse it, test it with a 12v power source, so you get a baseline of how it sounds when you hit it. Then submerge it in PB Blaster, and leave it. But before you do all that, head to your local toyota dealer and pick up a few quarts of T-IV tranny fluid, and then hit autozone and get a filter kit, comes with a nice rubber gasket to install. Recommend you put the the car on ramps in the front, and jackstands in the rear. I did this and had plenty of room to do the work.

Or you can take it to a reputable mechanic and let them get messy for you.

Thanks guys for the info. Seems to follow pretty much what I found in my searching. As soon as I get back from this business trip I will do just that and post the results.. I don't mind getting dirty and looks like a good plan before having to replace the solenoids.. the trans
is due for a service anyway..

You may want to see if the ECU has been rebuilt. I have a rebuilt ecu (93 ls400) that will not engage the overdrive. Overdrive works fine with an untouched ecu.
