Default Question about lowering the steering wheel in a 96 LS400

Hi everyone, quick question:

I know someone who has a '96 LS400 and he said that on the CL forums, he saw that you can somehow bypass the steering wheel sensor and lower it down a lot more than you are supposed to.

I looked through the forums for this post but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Can someone let me know if this is possible?

Thank you,

David Whang

if you study the dynamics and geometry of the airbag deployment, the settings are optimized to save your head. if you allow the wheel to drop lower, it aims at your neck or chest. lowering the steering wheel to that level,in an impact could cause a broken neck, or better yet, a severe crush to the chest causing a heart attack from the impact of the airbag.
lowering the rake of the steering wheel below stock threshold is not advised.

not that threshold.

press down 10-15times in quick succession and it drops down an extra 1/4-1/2". may also work if you press down 2-3 times and hold for 10sec.

David, this feature was designed for technicians to remove certain components... nothing more... it will barely go down. basically just enough to remove cluster and etc etc for easier removal... LoL

Personally, I wouldn't do this for safety reasons. But you could just take out the 4 bolts holding the steering column up and add some washers in there.
