Default New LS400 owner... yes i tryed search... :P

Hi, I just got a 1990 LS400 running and I have a few issues but the one I wanted to ask about was with the tacho/speedo all the lights work (bright, like the cluster is brand new or something) and all the gauges work but i think the speedo and tacho need calibration, because the tach half the time acts as though it doesn't work but under high rpms will give reading.

The tach mostly sits at the very bottom of the cluster resting on the "floor" :P but if you rev high (like your trying to pass someone with your foot down) it will start to "rev" around the high RPMs (but the most it will read is 0~100RPM (yes! 100 RPM) )

the speedo is about 5~6MPH off at 35MPH but i think it gets worse as the speed go's up (at "60" I pass people in a 65 like there standing still.)

I've tryed searching but I haven't found anything in the same ballpark as mine, I dont think my cluster is bad i just think it needs calibration, If anyone could tell me how to do so on this car I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Oh one last thing, the power locks/OEM alarm will not arm/disarm from the drivers door? Thanks. :P

Welcome.

Are you sure you searched?
These cover enough similarities that IMO would be relevant.
Post up pic of your baby.

Hi, thanks, i'll post pics after paint :P (not a pretty sight >.>)

I didn't think any of the treads you listed were relevant to my issue as my speedo does in fact work, it's simply out of calibration. As I said before EVERYTHING on the cluster works, it's just that the speedo and tach are out of calibration.

Also kinda reluctant to just dive into the dash as my "tilt steering" doesn't tilt even after replacing the switch (witch was a pain >.<) and it seems like taking anything apart on this car is a major project. (did the tilt switch, spark plugs and some of the vac lines myself... >.<)

Lots to read in those old threads. There isn't a "calibration" available, it is a speed sensor and or stuck/sticking/broken needle. What size wheel-tire is on the car?

One of the posts in the stickies.

What are thoughts on this? did i knock the needle off the spring in the cluster or did i mess up some sensor? I havent been able to find the answer on any other forum ... so far.

Thanks in advance for your help
