Default metal headgaskets for the 1uz

ive never seen this posted before. when i searched before, all i could find was the copper gaskets lextreme offered which arnt practical for a car that is going to be driven alot.

the stock 1uz hg is composite and has a bore of 3.525in on the gasket.

a stock 3uz hg is mls(multi layered steel), same as stock for a 2jzgte, and has a bore of 3.635in. so for anyone that wants to go turbo, i recomend just getting gaskets for a 3uz instead. they are ~$140 a pair for felpro at napa. this is pretty much the same gasket that cometic, hks, greddy, sell for performance engines, and built 2jz's use stock hg's as they are already metal. just figured id throw this out there for anyone that would need the info. wish i had known while i had my 1uz apart. id have waited another couple weeks and bought the metal hg's instead of the composite hg's.

btw, you can get new headbolts for ~$21 per head at autozone. just look them up for a late 90's gs400. thats what i did when i rebuilt the heads on my 1uz. same exact bolts, though for some reason autozone says they dont have them for the 90-94 ls400.

why? its only 2.8mm difference. the gasket surface will still be on the iron sleeves of the block, and itll only show an extra 1.4mm on either side of the bore at that. very minute. the 2uz has a mhg as well, but the bore is far too large to use on a 1uz.
