Default Engine problem!

Hey guys,

I've noticed that any time it rains or the weather is very humid/damp, when I first start the engine cold, it runs rough. After driving it and it's warmed up, it runs just fine. What's causing this?

Thanks

Plug wires, distributor caps/rotors are sensitive to humidity and, when worn or cracked, will arc to the chassis or between wires due to the extra moisture. It could also possibly be a cracked coil. The dielectric insulation breaks down and redirects the spark that should be going to your plugs to ground. That is most likely what you are experiencing.

Sometimes you can spray WD40 on the wires/caps/coils and it will dry them out enough to confirm the diagnosis. Another way is to view your engine in darkness, like nighttime or in a dark garage when running rough and look for arcing flashes. Then replace the part(s) that are bad.
