Default ls400 1994 and 1992 problems, need help

i have problems with both of my lexus ls400

the 1994 lexus starting to make a deep noise from the passenger side of the engine while turning on the engine, then it goes back to normal and makes a faint ticking noise which seems to be on the passenger side. It just starting happening today and im not sure whether i need a oil change or it is my starter? Also cigarette plugs just stop working also, this was when i turned off my car and turned it back on that my engine started making that deep noise.

In my 1992 it feels as if the power of the engine is really low. The Catalytic converter would turn red hot, i checked all my ignition and my spark plugs but all of them work besides one coil. Is it my distributor? because i checked the driver side by turning on the car and touching the coil with plugs intact on a bolt on the car and their would be on spark, which means one side is not working? Maybe its only running half of the cylinders?

Yes, one of your ignition coils (you have 2) are bad on the -92 LS400. It's probably the one on the left hand side of the engine (ignition coil 1). See picture below for position of the ignition coils.

OEM part number:
Ignition coil with bracket & cord (easier to install)
- Ignition coil 1 (left), 1908050011
- Ignition coil 2 (right), 1909050010
Coil only, 9091902197

If you have the money for it I would recommend to change both ignition coils.

As you can see on the picture every distributor has 4 outputs and 1 input (the middle in/output). The input is leading to the ignition coil. Just follow the wire and you would find the ignition coil. It's fairly easy to change ignition coil 2 but ignition coil 1 is a little bit harder. Would suggest to remove the battery to change ignition coil 1.

The deep noise on the '94 - is it only during the startup sequence and it does not occur when you're under normal driving conditions? Or is it just at low revs & low torque?

On other cars I've owned a crack in the exhaust manifold is something that could cause what you describe. I don't know if these cars use steel or cast iron.

Yes the coils are identical if you order just the coil.
