Default LS400 1996 Key Fob Program DIY

First this is only for 1996 LS400 due to the fact that i only have this year
if you don't have a key fob like i did you can try to find it on eBay or a few other
site that i have found

http://originalkeyless.com/1996-Lexu...try-Remote.htm

Now there are two FCC ID # for the 1996 model

1. HYQ1512P
2. HYQWDTC

mine was the second FCC ID # you can try to ask dealership to find out what FCC ID you need i did it the hard way i bought both of them

Next is the way to program the key i found a few links but the one i like and the one that worked for me was

http://www.programyourremote.com/cla...Ad.asp?id=1429

now it dose say it's for the ES300 1998 but it worked just fine for me

1. Start with key out of ignition, drivers door is open all others closed and
drivers door is unlocked.

2. Insert key into the ignition (Do NOT Turn) and Pull key out.

3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
A. Using the power lock switch on the drivers door, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles
starting with lock. Use an even pace and try to go about one cycle per second.
(1Cycle = 1 lock and 1 unlock).
B. Close, then open drivers door.

4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
A. Using the power lock switch on the drivers door, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles
starting with lock. Use an even pace and try to go about one cycle per second.
(1Cycle = 1 lock and 1 unlock).
B. Insert the key in the ignition cylinder.
C. Turn the ignition to ON (Do NOT Start) then back to OFF.
D. Remove the key from the ignition.

5. Press any button on remote for a minimum of 1 second.
System should now lock and unlock doors once.

6. Close and open drivers door.

7. Press any button on remote for a minimum of 1 second. System should now lock and
unlock doors. Once to confirm programming, twice to indicate programming failed.

8. Repeat steps 5, 6 and 7 for additional remotes.

Now i can lock and unlock my car pop the trunk and used the panic button
hope this helps someone

I have only ever seen the second FCC ID used on a 96

and when you are searching ebay for a remote fob for $40, make sure you spell it with the dash inside the number when you search on the ID like this: HYQWDT-C

Bumping up an old thread, but...

I just bought a 96 LS400 and it came with two keys, but no remotes. I've done some searching around, but haven't really found a definite yes or not to the question whether the 96 comes standard with remote keyless entry or not?

I'm assuming yes, but I would appreciate it if somebody could confirm this.

If yes, I guess I'll just head on to Ebay and buy one, or two, and use these instructions to program them.

EDIT: I guess I'll answer my own question now that I have read from at least two different places that remote keyless entry was standard equipment. So, off to shopping on Ebay it is, then.

Yes, remote keyless entry is standard on a 96 model.

But do not buy a used fob!

I made the mistake buying a used fob and had to learn that used ones (e.g. from fleabay) are not reprobrammable, because of the fob's ROM Chip (Programmable_read-only_memory)!!! The vehicle's VIN number will be written on it - can't overwrite it.

Later I bought a new one via internet and used the instruction you see above.

on my 96's and 97's, I bought 3 different fob's, and used the above program and all 3 worked and they were not new ones.... so whatever.... go for broke.

Not familiar with the 95-96. I've bought about 4 used remotes from eBay and here from members for use on our '97. The programming sequence has recognized them without problem. Sadly, one of them had a damaged switch so the trunk release portion was That comes with buying used so you won't know if the remote is 100%.

I'm happy there are generic shells for them. Back then I had to hunt down compatible shells to transfer the internals over. Not all Toyota shells with the same layout fit the internals right.

Yeah, highly doubt the remotes would be tied with the VIN. If the remote was integrated with the key like MB/BMW and what not, then it would be different.

I've bought several used remotes for other vehicles and programmed them to work, so I doubt Lexus would be any different.

The only problem I see no is that the rear door locks seem to be a bit sticky and might not always do the lock/unlock sequence five times in a row to be able to program the remote. Hence, I'll hold off on buying the remotes until I make sure the locks all work smoothly all the time.

Hopefully it's just a matter of cleaning/lubing the mechanicals and I don't have to swap actuators, or something.. But... Knowing my luck, that's probably what it's going to end up being.

I'll be damned....after reconsidering all your posts and a bit online-research I tried to programm the used fleabayFob and it worked....:rolleyes........I bought a new one earlier this year....:egads............:

Keyless FOB - programming instruction that worked at last for the 1997 model:

1. sitting in driver seat, with driver's door OPEN, press lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR to lock all doors, then manually unlock driver door only.
2. Insert YOUR key in ignition, DO NOT TURN, then remove key.
3. Using the same lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly press lock-unlock in 5 cycles
4. Shut door.
5. Open door.
6. Using the same lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, again slowly press lock-unlock in 5 cycles
7. With the door open insert your key into the ignition, turn to 'on' position (DON'T START), wait approx. 2 seconds. Turn off and remove key.

A. 1 time is the “Add” mode. This is used only on some models and it allows
you to add a remote to the already existing remotes. The ECU confirms this by
locking and unlocking the door locks automatically after you remove the key.
B. 2 times is the second mode which will erase all previously programmed remotes
and allow you to program new ones. The ECU confirms this mode by
locking and unlocking the door locks twice after you remove the key
C. 3 times is the third mode which tells you how many remotes are already
programmed to the ECU. It confirms this locking and unlocking the door
locks the amount of times applicable to the remotes coded. If no remotes are
programmed then the ECU locks and unlocks the door locks 5 times. The ECU
will hold up to 4 remotes at any one time.

8. Locks should cycle once (Car will lock and then unlock once by herself). If they don't cycle or they cycle more than once, do steps 1-7 over.
9. Now using the remote, push lock button, hold for one second, then release the button. The locks should cycle once. If not, start over and go slower.
10. Close the door.
11. Open the door.
12. Press the lock button on the remote. The locks should do a lock-unlock cycle.
13. Close the door
14. Press the lock button on the remote, the doors should lock.
15. Press unlock button and the doors should unlock.

before it gets successfully programmed, you may hear a 10-second long beep which did take me by surprise! I thought I was in big trouble but all is good.

I followed instructions that looked similar to this when I bought a used fob on ebay for my used 96. Took a few tries for me as well. I found the timing of the sequences to be crucial. Not too fast, not too slow. When I finally had success, I was pushing buttons at about the beat of a typical dance song.
