Default 1996 LS 400 running bad please help

The car idles good but when you give it gas it boggs down or is misfiring. When you accelerate you have no power but it will eventually get up to speed and it is sucking gas bad it smells like its running to rich. The catalytic converters (which are not clogged) are fire red after i drive it. What could it be my plugs and wires are good. Thank you for any input you could give me.

Check your o2 sensor, air filter, spark plugs and wires.

check the resistance of the ignition coils; remove the passenger side ignition coil and test to make sure it is within spec. remove the battery from the driver side to test the resistance/ohm driver side ignition coil

replace your plugs and wires; if they have not been during the last 60,000 miles

Why do people make 2 threads if it's the same issue? Anyway, in your other thread, you said you had code for the IAT, which is in the MAF. Unplug your MAF and drive it. If the MAF or IAT are bad the car will run awesome. Your fuel mileage will be affected dramatically like this though.

The car sounds like it's running rich, i.e. glowing cats. But just because their glowing doesn't mean their not clogged. Often they will just collapse on themselves, before they just stop/clog all together. It could be anything that would have to do with the A/F or ignition system. I see that you posted about the IAT sensor too, could possibly causing an issue, but I haven't really experienced a faulty IAT sensor that has caused such catastrophic issues. As they have all said above, check the simple things like plugs, wires, MAF sensor, etc. You should probably take care of that before it gets worse.
