Default trans stays in 1st when lights are on help

My 1991 ls400 stays in 1st gear when running lights are on. Shifts fine when lights are off. Also seems to down shift a gear when brakes are hit. I don't even know where to start looking. Some direction would be great. Thank you in advance.

Oh boy sounds like the infamous trunk wire harness to me. Check the harness in the trunk from the left rear corner on up the hinge. question do you see the reverse icon on the cluster light up when braking? thats one of the dead givaways ......go check it out and keep us posted
