LS400 Trunk Emblems for 1st Gen
Hey All
Have any of you put the trunk LS400 emblems on you 1st gen cars? I went to the dealer shop this weekend to buy them. Fist they were $20 for the LS and $30 for the 400, what a rip off.
The problem was that not only did they have the adheasive tape but also some rubber protrusion that are supposed to sink into holes in your trunk for correct positioning and better attachment. Well I'm not about to cut holes in my trunk. I dont know for what year LS they were for, maybe 2000. The girl behind the counter was a real dimwit. SHe said I could just cut off the rubber and stick them on, but for $50 I dont want them falling off.
Do you know if there is a perticular year the emblems work well with our cars?
Thanks for your help
Jerry

You could try hot glue as well just snip the ends off. Also they sell special 3M double sided adhesive tape that body shops use to put on body side moldings. It's specific for applications just like this. The correct way is drilling though since they have the prongs.

you can go buy a 95 LS 400 emblem clip of the ***** or rubber intusions with a nail clipper and just use the adhesive tape on the emblem and stick. so simple and easy

Are you saying that I can not just use the sticky tape that already come on the emblems. Do I need to remove that tape and use the 3m stuff?
I was trying to avoid that. I would have to cut ut each letter in the tape with an exacto. Also what about the tape thikness, is it obvious its not stock?
Thank you sll for your help.

Use the sticky tape that comes with the emblems.
I was just commenting that emblems have stayed on just fine using double-sided tape, without any prongs going through the trunk.

LS400 TRUNK EMBLEMS
I've used 95-98 emblems on 1st Gen cars. The ones I used did not have any protrusions which required any holes to be drilled. I bought a roll of double-backed emblem tape at the auto paint store to mount them. They will not fall off. This is what most new car manufacturers use for emblems and moldings.
If you find emblems with protrusions, just grind them flat and you are in business.
