Default Brake Sensors (Newbie at this stuff)

Hey guys, so I'm new to the site and when it comes to cars and repairs, I honestly have zero experience.I probably couldn't even change my own oil (yea that sad).

Anyway, I need to start taking better care of my 93 LS400. I believe the first thing I need to do is get the brake sensors on the front brakes replaced. I had my back brakes replaced maybe five/six months ago, and they even said the front sensors need to be fixed.

I get this terrible screech when I apply the brakes, especially if I'm slowing down at slower speed. So I guess my questions are

1) What type of questions should I be asking myself about where to get this repaired?

2) What would be a good price for this type of service.

I'm really hoping not to get ripped off. I'm a college student here in the Dallas area and I really want this car to last me. It has over 250,000 miles on it, but it has a rebuilt engine in it about 50-60k miles ago. I bought it back in the summer of 2008.

Anyway, this thread is mostly about the brake sensor questions, but I also really hope to learn how to take good care of this car on my own, without having to spend a ton of money on every little issue.

I tried the search function and couldn't find anything on it. If you could link me I would greatly appreciate it.

http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/brake/fbrotor.html I hope this works I never posted a link before. Anyways this is a tutorial on replacing brake rotors but it includes removing your calipers. It's really easy if you have a basic set of tools and a jack. get your head under there and look around, and if you forget how to put something back together you have the other side for referance.

Thanks for the link. Changing my own brake pads is definitely something I would want to learn. However, would this fix the brake sensors as well? Or is this something completely different?

I guess I'll explain more about my problem. So when I brake at higher speeds, I get a minor squeak. Nothing thats too bad. However, when I brake at slower speeds, its a very loud, high pitch screech. Very intolerable if outside the car (I hate going through fast food drive thrus).

Now when I had my back brakes replaced six months ago they mentioned the brake sensors not being installed correctly. Also, on my dashboard, the warning light that had a red circle with lines around the circle is on (I assume that has to do with the brakes).
