Default New to the LS scene

Hello all, i am new to the LS scene and wanted to get some info. I am looking to purchase an LS400, preferalbly a 98+ w/ black int. I have seen some 96 and 97 nice and clean with black int. What i want to know is what are the biggest differences between the 97 and 98. Also can i change the front end of a 97 to a 98. Is there a difference in the rear?

Thanks

if you can afford 98+ go for it, i personally love 95+ so 2nd gen is perfect for me. Although 3rd gen is really appealing too
