uhmmm ok? notice that most of the ones that have plastic lenses ('98-00 ls400s) have much better light output and optics?

Plastic saves weight, more shapes possible, less harmful in a collision. and above all; cheaper

Plastic lenses are far less likely to be broken by rocks kicked up by other vehicles. Glass headlight lenses can get cracked by a flying rock just like a windshield can.

One good aspect of glass headlight lenses is that headlight wash/wipers can be used on them. Headlight wash/wipers are usually more effective than pressure headlight washers but they can not be used on plastic headlight lenses which are more susceptible to scratching.

Maybe I should pick up a second set of Eagle Eye's for my 1st gen just in case... If the optics of the OEM 1st gen's weren't so bad, I would have stayed with them, but they throw the light so poorly with the halogen bulbs, it wasn't acceptable to me.
