I just wished it looked better stock. It looks like a regular car (and not a $$$$$$ one). Older LS's look a lot better IMO.

Excellent Ariticle

Well Ever sence I bought my wife the RX300 I have loved Lexus. Over a month ago I bought my 91 LS400 and fell in love all over again.

Just last week I test drove a 2000 LS400 and a 2001 LS430. Well by far the LS430 is a much "Neater" car. In the test drive, I drove both cars for about 20min plus the salesman and I sat in them for another 10min each while he explained all the features of each and the differences. Honestly both cars are amazing and both realy about the same with the same performance. At least by my seat of the pants evaluation they felt very close.

The one thing that imprest me was all of the extra features the LS430 had. The main thing that impressed me was the A/C system. The vents swing side to side and the cabin Temp sensing. Well the LS430 is my new dream car. I was thinking about the Ultra but from doing my research most of the money is pored intothe back seats. Well with a car seat back ther for my daughter I dont think I can justify the expense.

My goal is to wait a couple of years untill the 2001's drop into th $30k range and get one. I say in about 3 years maybe.

The one coment I have on both 2000 and 2001 is the throttle is much light than out 1st gen cars. Ours you need to realy puch the peddle and floor it for the car to go. Well the new ones are very sensitive to peddel pressure.

Take care
Jerry

Default test drove an '02 LS 430

While at a Lexus dealership this week, I had the pleasure to test drive an '02 LS 430 with the ECRU interior. The sticker price on this car was a tad over $61K. Since I own a '99 model, I was interested in seeing the changes between mine and the new models.

My first and noticeable thing was that the throtle on the '02 felt sluggish compared with my '99 model. It did not accelerate promptly as mine does, despite the higher displacement and the higher torque. Maybe the extra 200 Ibs has much more drag on this car than its 3rd gen predecessor. Which made me wonder how Lexus or even some car mags came out with a 0-60 of 6.3s on the '02 model; a full 0.2s faster than the 3rd gen models clocked at 6.5s for the 0-60 test !

The second thing I noticed right away was how quiet the '02 was. It was eerily quiet ! Unbelievable !! I could hardly hear a whisper of the engine running from inside and outside of this car. Just incredible engineering from Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus division team....

Personally, however, my take is that the '02 model was "tighter" and very well put together compared with my '99 model. It was extremely smooth (not that mine isn't) but this one was just smoother in every way. I noticed also that the tach, speedo, fuel and engine temp needles now spots red illumination instead of the bright white in older models. The red really stood out and it gave the car even more distinctiveness.

I have promised that this would be my next car in another 4 years or so, or as soon as my daughter is old enough to drive (6 years from now), whichever is earlier
