Default Help help help pleeaase

I just had my mechanic change my wheel bearings on all 4 wheels. It still making humming noise. He told me he needed the shim for the hub. Problem:
He does not know what size and is not able to determine the thickness he needs. Jaguar dealer parts tells me they have 25 different shims between 2.2 and 3.7 mm !!! AND EACH ONE at $ 24.00 a piece non returnable!
WHAT DO I DO???????? Please help if able to.

See how good you are PD...they seek your advice even if it isn't a Lex.

As for the shim he couldn't get a measurment from the old ones?

If he used the old ones (gasp) and it is assembled, pre-loaded properly, there shouldn't be any humming. Does the pitch increase with speed? How's the rest of the drive line...tranny, drive shaft...?
