Default Is it safe to drive?

Is it safe to drive my Lexus without power steering fluid? Will it mess up the pump? My power steering hose has a pretty big hole and its just leaks power steering fluid everywhere even after I try taping it up. Just wondering because I need to drive to Houston which is 150 miles away.

Thank you

yes running it dry is bad for the pump. you're better off topping it off every 30-50miles depending on how bad the leak is than lettting it run dry.

if you let it run dry for that long be ready to replace the pump soon too.

and all that power steering fluid leaks down to the alternator, so get ready to spring for a new alternator too. bottom line: get the hose fixed right now.

that's only true if the leak is AT the pump.
