1991 vs 1995 upper control arm
Has anyone ever actually compared a later year upper control arm with the gen1 control arm? I am wondering if they are similar or close enough that they could be machined/modified to work.
I ask because sometimes a manufacturer will assign a new part number due to a minor difference or an update. i.e. it is now made of steel vs aluminum etc. ect.
Arnott is back ordered for several months and I relly don't want to spend up wards of a $1000.00 for a pair of control arms.
There must be a better way!

I got mine (for my 95) from Rory @ Rutherford & Bond Toyota (Wellington, NZ)
They cost me about the same as the arnot ones (all 4 for about $900NZ / $600US), genuine parts.

Give him a call, i'd say he'll freight to you in the states no problem.

They're different
KM-
I'm almost positive they're different. I purchased an aftermarket set of upper control arms that were advertised for my 97, thinking mine needed replacement.
The arms themselves looked different, the cross section of the metal wishbone was smaller on these than on the arms that I pulled from the 97. When I put them on my car they bolted into the vehicle chassis correctly, but the spatial location of the upper ball joint itself was different from where it was with the original upper control arms. I believe it was about an inch rearward and slightly outboard, if that makes sense. I tried bolting the top of the knuckle to this ball joint but it was difficult and awkward, almost felt like it was placing the linkage in a bind of some sort. At that point I took them out and swapped my original ones back in. Luckily mine weren't too worn and are still working fine.
I also have a 94 LS. When I last rotated the wheels, I held up the replacement UCAs next to the ones on the 94 and they look identical in shape and cross section. The location of the ball joint itself is difficult to determine without removing the ones in the car, but it did seem to fall in the same "aft" location as the ones on the 94. So I'm pretty sure that (1) the gen 1 and gen 2 UCAs are not interchangeable and (2) aftermarket UCAs are often mislabeled.
Take that for what it's worth...I've read in places that the aftermarket parts don't always fit, but these seemed like the correct match for my 94, just not the as-advertised 97. I'm keeping them around in anticipation of the UCAs on the 94 going out, but of course they haven't yet so they're just sitting.
