Default What is Fair Price for 2000 LS400?

Platinum Edition, Nav. System. Silver Color, 42,500. Needs 4 new tires ($600) and some minor touch up repair on leather, for maybe $300. No dents noticed, but has a few chips from rocks on hood. Nothing unusual.

I am buying from an individual, not a dealership. It is a Lexus Certified car, with transferable warranty that lasts 22 more months and 57, 500 more Miles. (which i wont put on that many).

What do think is a fair price?

I would say in the mid 30's. My best beat would be www.kellybluebook.com Type in your zip code and do a search by private party. Hard to say since you saw the car personally.
Hope that helps.

Cary:

I would think very high 30's, less the cost to fix the squawks you mention . A dealer would probaly get around $41-43K, plus you say it has navig., which when I was looking always pushed the price up a lot.

Another source: Autobytel has LOTS of listings from dealers. The are a little high, but will give you an idea of the high end the cars are going for.

Are you sure the warranty is transferrable? My Lexus Certified Pre-Owned warranty policy on my '99LS says in big letters that it is not transferrable to any other owner. I'm assuming that when you say 'certified' you mean the Lexus Certified Pre-owned warranty, since your car would be out of the original 4 yr/50K basic warranty.

PS: I found NADA to be more accurate (NADAGUIDES.com), unfortunately. At least in the southwest, Edmunds prices were too low.

Cary, the KBB on it in my zip code, with the platinum edition and nav system, listed as good rather than excellent condition (the dings mentioned) is $34,000....Capper

you are right. Lexus Certified warranty is NOT transferrable but it has 8000 miles, 20 months left on orignal warranty so at least that is something. So far I got him down to $32,000 but I am sure he will come down at least $500- 1000 more since he told me warranty was transferable.

Default 32k Is a good price!

Cary,

If you can get it for 31k I would run with it! If you got him down to 32K and tell him that the warranty is not transferable he should come down a bit more for that reason.(as you stated)
Sounds like a reasonable guy to me.

The numnber for that car is between 34k-35k depending on the minor issues and your location.
Not the high 30's to low 40's like someone said on this post. I wouldn't pay that much even from a dealer, you have to be outta your mind.

Asking 40k for a car doesn't mean that's what the car is worth even if the dealer fixed what had to be repaired/replaced!
That's is just WRONG I tell ya....WRONG! lol
I know you knew this already just felt like venting.

Default Right, but don't forget varying conditions of the car

Started out with $35,050(AVG.) minus $900 for the 42,000 miles so the Avg. Wholesale total is $34,150. Also note $29,550 if the car is in rough condition and $37,750 if the car is in Clean condition.

I'd check three independent sources for pricing; the Kelly Blue Book, the NADA book and the Edmunds.com True Market Value. I'd learn the trade-in, private party, and retail pricing and I'd go from there. If the car's really nice, the offer to sell at $31 or $32 k is very generous. Buy it.

I have a couple on my lot, we are asking $39,9. and $41,9.
They are both 00' models with average mileage.

Yeah, if you want to pay retail from a lot they rape you over the coals like I said. I guess thats why they are still sitting on the lot with no action.

Why pay retail when you can get a car wholesale from a private party is all I am saying!

Default if this helps

Just bought a '99 LS 400 with Nav, HID, heated seats, etc... 60k miles, paid $30.9K ($ca. 33K out the door). No dings, no trim issues, in immaculate condition in and out. Pearl white color. Bought from an out-of-town dealership (a Toyota dealership) that saved a bundle. In San Diego where I live, dealerships were asking for b/w $37 - $39K on similar car (although with ca. 45K miles).

Hope this helps
