Question Cheapest place to buy a tilt motor?

I have a tilt problem and it is not the gear so today I took it apart and found out it was the motor. The part number is 89231-50030. When I go to a Lexus part site it comes up with a invalid part number. Did they supersede this part number? Also I searched and I could not find this answer out, what year and models tilt steering motors will fit my 96 LS4? I found one out of a 93 LS4 and it looks very similar to my 96. I refuse to pay the money Lexus is asking for one. I took the motor apart and cleaned and lubed everything back up and still it is bad.

Thanks, James

Have you tried filing a set of brushes to replace the old brushes?

It works but once it gets going it slows down and stop. I bench tested it so I know it is the motor.

I'm finding two different part numbers on Part.com for a 96 LS tilt motor -- see attached.

You could try clicking on their "Ask Us" button and inquire.

Mine is the 50030. What pisses me off is that this motor is nothing special. It is just a smaller power window motor. Everything inside is exactly the same as any window motor. I'm not paying $400+ for something that has already been designed. I'm going to the junkyard and see what I can dig up in the Japanese section for motors.

Where did you get those part numbers? I could not find anything on the site you mentioned.

Ok I found out why it is so much. That part number 45810-50030 is for the motor AND the gear, not the plastic gear in the motor but the gear that the motor attaches to. The part number I provided is just for the motor and I do not think they sell it separately and that is the reason why I cannot find it.-James

James-

Did you get this problem worked out? I have the same motor problem with both my telecsoping and tilt motors. I took them to a motor repair shop and they report that the commutators are shot. I tried a set from a wrecker and they were worse than mine. Has the motor been superseded?

Pick n Save in Lynchburg, VA has plenty of LS400s. They are UCF10s, though.

Yes I did. The gear was fine in mine but the motor was bad. What I can tell you is that the one in my 96 is the same tilt motor that is in the first gens. The only difference is the pigtail is different and the pins inside are a little different. Believe it or not, I swapped the plastic connector with the one out of my 96 and it fits.

Another note it to not to over torque any of the bolts on the motor when installing it. It is hard to explain but the metal cover of the motor has grease inside the opposite side of the worm gear. At the opposite end of the worm gear, the shaft rides inside the end of the motor's steel cap which has a small bronze bushing. If you tighten it to much, the motor cover puts too much pressure one the end of the shaft not allowing it to turn freely making the motor act weak or prematurely burn out.

The reason I replace the motor was because it would briefly work and slow die out. After that all it did was click. You waited a few minutes and it would work for a couple of seconds and then die. What I did find out was someone else was in this column before and overtightened the bolts causing it to fail. What I think is someone replaced it with used unit and over torqued the bolts. I will get pictures up so you guys know what I'm talking about a little easier.
