Default The Texas Sun is not my friend......

I noticed my dash starting to crack due to some sun damage, is there anything I can do to fix this and stop it from cracking anymore? Thanks in advance.

have you thought about a vinyl repair kit? if you leave the crack as it is, it'll just grow bigger and bigger. that's how cracks work

I got Leatherique for my leather and I think it said it works on vinyl and plastic too. You could probably cover all the materials in your car with one product.

Yeah I will most likely try to fix it with some type of leather kit and try to restore the dash. Is it leather or pleather? That leatherique looks pretty good might try it out.

Nothing will help after vinyl on a dash starts to crack. A vinyl/leather repair pro can probably fix/disguise the existing damage. Get a windshield sun shield and use it religiously when parking outside.

Vinyl repair patch will work. My dad had a body shop when I was growing up and I saw them use this.

Park with a sunshade. I use 303 Aerospace Protectant. It has SPF 40 for your dash

I agree...when I park outside I use a sunshade on the front windshield. Some guys at work use car covers thats if you don't mind putting them on & taking them off.

I doubt that will fool potential buyers in the future...

+1 on the sun shade. Mine is cracking and short of a new dash pad...it is going to grow with each hot summer and sun exposure. Suxx...

You can get the dash fixed by a professional and it will look like new. Check on websites locally. Make sure you get a guy with experience. My guess 50 to 100 bucks for the one shown

Get a car cover ASAP and use it religiously.

Ever notice in the summer how your upper arm is a lighter shade than your lower arm? Well, unless you work construction or agriculture you do not stay out in the sun all day but your car does.

Just a few hours of exposure to UV light does that to your skin. All day in the sun ravages your car.

A quality cover is about $300. They last about 5 years if cleaned once in a while. A factory quality paint job is $4000+ and if you can find it, a dash replacement is a PITA.

Anyway, a cover blocks all direct UV light to all surfaces of the car and lowers the temp inside by over 50 degrees in the summer.

The top layer of matieral over your dash is as stretched as a celebrity's face. Moisture is what it needs to loosen a bit so wet it down with a quality protectant like Vynilex by Lexol. Do it daily until you see a difference.

If you are up to it and find a replacement in a junkyard that is in better shape then replace it yourself. I did it in a Celica I had in the past and the new dash was much softer and less prone to this.
