If you search this forum you'll find some threads on this subject. From what I remember reading, fuel savers are a waste of money. Make sure your car is properly maintained and is well tuned. The best investment could be new NGK or Denso spark plugs, caps, rotors, wires (check the resistance with an ohm meter), etc... If the car is throwing any codes, make sure those are addressed because they could have a significant impact on your fuel economy.

Seeing that your from the UK, I can understand why you'd be concerned with fuel economy. Petrol is much more expensive on that side of the pond.

Cheers!

Did you get the one with the "Fuel Peddle Application" monitor? I heard that is the one to get..

Since its plugged into the OBDII, will it allow you to reset those annoying codes on the fly that come up while you're driving along?

Am considering making or buying an HHO producing unit--adds HHO gas to your intake--one make is Water4Gas and the other I've looked at is FuelSaver.... My LS 400 is proving to be very thirsty, and I pay about 20cents more per liter for premium... Sometimes I cheat and use midgrade, but....
Anyhoo, wondered if anyone else has tried the HHO route, 'cause I LOVE this car... Thanks, Howard

Save your money. Pretend their is an egg between you and the throttle. Put 40 psi in your tires, they may wear in the middle but your mileage will increase. Drive 55 on the freeway, just beware cuz you will get honked and yelled at. Take all excess weight out of your car. Get a scan gauge and play the keep your instant mpg as high as possible game.

One can drive conservatively. No matter what driving practices implemented, this is not going to have the economy of a Corolla or new generation car that has had technological engine-transmission improvements. Add-on gadgets serve to take money out of your wallet and provide minimal to no benefit. In the end your car with good care will turn in about what the manufacturer has stated for the car in terms of performance and driving distance capacity.

but serious answer to OP - if your 96 is running right, it will get great mileage for a large luxury sedan with a V8

should be getting 22 city/26 highway in US miles per US gallon (you might have to convert that) if your LS400 is running optimally.

assuming your car is in good tune and the throttle body and injectors are clean, there is no magic elixir to increase your fuel mileage over what it got new, Toyota spent hundreds of millions of dollars in research getting it as high as possible, don't fall for the snake oil!

Great advice!
