It appears to me the K&N filter used in our application has much less surface area [center section just plastic] with a circle of filter around it. Even if it flows better per square inch than the stock filter,,the stock filter has so much more filter area that I'm thinking there wouldn't make much difference.
Who makes the best stock type filter??

This is my Intake, K&N type filter ive had no problems as PURE said it was a custom job since this intake does not fit in a 90-92

that's a nice looking intake, but given only what i can see it's a short ram, not a cold air, intake.

The LS 400 K&N filter has less filtering area than the stock type filter. The center section is not a filtering area ,just the ring around the center. It is most likely true that per square inch of stock filter medium does not flow as well as the K&N filter type BUT the stock filter has so much more filter surface area than the K&N. The center section is all filter. So for me It was a toss up so I just got a Purolator filter for the LS and passed on the K&n. Not all K&n filters are superior to stock.

yeah i was playing with this in autozone the other day, and i honestly couldnt tell a difference. my friend was with me and he said "basically k&n just showed me i dont need their $70 filter."

There's a really good thread on benzworld.org where the administrator introduced k&n as a sponsor and this one guy just destroyed k&n with some scientific facts. check it out:

I already replaced it. Yesterday I did a few things - throttle body clean with new gasket (wasn`t bad at all -99 LS w/119000 miles, which makes me think that spark plugs that were changed at 87000 miles are in good shape), oil change, drained ATF and topped off with fresh (under 2qt comes out), air filter and cabin filter.
