Default How to Remove 1990-1994 LS400 Steering Wheel-- How??!

I'm looking to replace my existing torn/worn shifter and steering wheel on my LS.
I'm searched a few times via the web and even here on the forum. I've only seen a lightly instructed post for 98+ LS.

If anyone can provide any pictures, instructions on how to remove and replace these items, it would be great for ME and for other users who will eventually consider doing the same thing!

Thank you VERY much in advance!

well disconnect the battery, wait a minute before u start tearing into it. theres 2 panels on the side, pop that off and from there i think its pretty obvious (remove airbag first then u can remove the steering wheel)

Actually the airbag will need 90 seconds no power before removal

It's really straight forward, just get a proper puller and it will pop off real easily

You can remove the air bag while the car is running, it's just advised not to, don't ask me how I know, work in the industry. As LiCelsior said, once you get the air bag off, there will be a 17 or 19mm to take the wheel nut off, it takes some juice. To take the airbag off you will need a t25 or t27 bit. If you have a puller it will make it easier but you can manage to wiggle it loose, just takes while.

Hmm, I never took off the airbag on mine. But most airbag system on other cars that I've worked on used either a T30 (honda's, Toyota's) and T40-45 with the middle point on the Nissan's. I think the Toyota and Lexus system should be the same, so T30 would fit.

I haven't started this, but what are the two panels on the side that just pop off, and what is underneath them? I have no idea how to get the steering wheel horn cover thing off.
