I've done it..hit my speed limiter
Wayy out in Temeculah, CA on the 15 fwy...wit hthe help of my friend tim...149MPH ! I'm happy.
I have a pic of the speedometer at about 137- blurry...didnt have the camera ready at 149 though..
The car though, definetly has room to go..I think it could do 160 mph.

You did this on your 1990 LS400? Kick A**! How many miles do you have on it? Any performance modifications?
BTW- I have a 91 LS400 and have had it up to 110. It wanted to go faster but I was too chicken.
Be careful and get a good radar detector!

My 1990 LS400 was clocked at 150 mph, and it seemed that it would go faster.
In any event, 1990's were delivered with tires that were rated at 150 mph. Seemed logical to the Japanese mind. However, those tires were no good for everyday driving, especially in the wet, snow, ice, etc. Also, they didn't last very long. I don't know that first hand, because I replaced mine before they had shown much wear.
So, if memory serves, for 1991 model year (maybe even sooner) they put in the electronic governor firmware to keep speed below something like 135mph, and were able then with clear conscience to install tires that weren't rated at 150 mph but were more suitable for everyday driving.
Several years after purchasing my 1990 I was surprised to receive in the mail a check from Lexus USA, I think it was for $100, to compensate me for what they said had been "unacceptable user experience" with the life of the original tires. I didn't object to the money, but I did question whether "life" was the biggest problem users had with those tires!

you getting closer to my record
160 alone and 158 with a friend in a car. They can go so fast de to low drag. LS has lower co-efficient then a vette...can you believe that?

Speaking of drag...so many cars are above .30 and some claim they have great drag coeff. because it's below .30. The 1990 lexus has a cd of .28 and the new ones are .25. Those beemers are .32. I guess that's why it's a lexus.

Stable ?
Hi Guys,
I have never had the courage to get up to those sort of speeds, plus here in the UK we do not have many roads that are long enough and really straight enough to try.
Another real considerations is that to be caught by the police doing over 100 mph on the motorway (70 mph limit) would result in an instant minimum 1 year driving ban plus a big fine !!!
Anyway to the real point, I have a bulk standard 1995 LS400 and just wondered how stable your cars felt when flying along at these speeds? (whether modded or un-modded).
Thx.

Stability of LS400 at 150 mph
>> just wondered how stable your cars felt when

My 1990 LS400 seemed very stable and also interior noise level seemed very low at 150 mph. The only other car that I have had that I drove at 150 mph was my 1961 Jaguar XK-E, which also seemed very stable but didn't have the low noise level.
By contrast, I had a couple of Corvettes in the 1960's that I wouldn't drive over about 85 mph because they just didn't seem stable and safe at the higher speeds.
Here's a story you may find difficult to believe.
I was heading to a city 150 miles from here, absolutely straight, nearly flat, concrete highway, and was cruising with my XK-E at 138 mph. (This was a favorite speed because it avoided an engine balance vibration problem). I slowed down to go through a small town and heard an odd noise. Stopped, got out, and discovered that the right rear tire was COMPLETELY FLAT. Had had no detectable effect on driveability AT ALL!
This car had knock-off hubs. Changed tire in short order, and still averaged over 100 mph to my destination.
Ah, those were the days.
