Default Replacing front shocks on 99 Lexus 400LS

How difficult is it to change the front shocks on a 99 Lexus 400LS? Is this a job that can be accomplished by a novice with reasonable mechanical skills working in the driveway? Tom

It is not too bad. Just remember to get the spring compressor and compress spring before removing the shock from the assembly. Otherwise you could get hurt from a flying part. I thought the hardest part was the time and effort to compress the spring. Otherwise it is pretty much unbolting and bolting back up. And alignment.

Yes, it can be done. However, compressing the spring with a spring compressor sucks!!!!! That will probably take two people unless you have a table clamp to hold it down.

BTW, if you are going to change your front shocks, you might as well replace the upper strut mounts ("top hat").
