New 91' LS400, news from the mechanic
So I dropped off my new to me 91 LS400 with my mechanic and got news I didn't want to deal with. With 215k miles it needs a water pump/timing belt, Left upper ball joint and a steering stabilizer. The steering is ok except it can develop a pretty nasty wobble from time to time so it's time to replace those which I would like to have him do. I feel I can take on the timing belt job myself, I've done an e30 BMW (which was a snap) and a gen2 Taurus SHO (horizontally opposed is SUCH a pain).. Two problems though,
1) I'd like to buy the timing belt stuff as a kit to make sure I get everything I need, should I just call sewell and have put it together for me?
2) My mechanic can't find upper ball joints nor a steering stabilizer after market. I'm pretty sure the P/N for the steering stabilizer is 45700 but I don't see the ball joint (I don't really know what I'm looking for). I've never done suspension stuff so I'm a little lost...

For the t-belt replacement I have:
Water Pump
Item: 16100-50023-83
Timing Belt
Item: 13568-59045
RING, O (FOR WATER INLET)
Item: 96761-35035
Lexus OEM O Ring
Item: 96761-24019
Lexus OEM Chain Tensioner Assembly No.1
Item: 13540-50010
Idler
Item: 13503-0F010
Idler
Item: 13505-50022
Am I missing anything? Total cost at sewell with code is $402 + shipping. I figured with 215k it's time to do the tensioners even though I will probably only have the thing for maybe 15-20k miles..

You might want to take your chances on a used one from car-parts.com... I don't think its that common for them to fail, so you might have good luck with the used...

I looked for a steering damper and there are no aftermarket ones and the ones in the junkyard are all trashed trust me your only remedy is to buy a new one or do not replace it. You will notice little if any difference without it. Once you get the new ball joint in you will notice a huge difference.

I'm going to put it off for a later date... it's easily something I can do quickly on my own when I have a few bucks. I'm going to pay to have the UCA's done because I'm going to do the Tbelt next weekend...
