Default LS400 wood trim, is it real or just "wood looking" plastic?

searched the forum but didn't get any answer.

I just couldn't tell if the wood on the steering wheel, shift knok, dash board are real wood.

in some LS, it looks really nice but in others not too real so I have a hard time figuring this out.

What do you guys think?

I believe I've read that the wood is real. Some California walnut or something.

Yes, it's real. It's a thin veneer covered with plenty of shiny lacquer or something.

I believe Yamahas piano division was recruited for the wood interior

it is real wood, that has been given a piano-style finish without the black paint/stain.

I thought the Equus was supposed to be South Korea's "next" LS?

Wasn't the wood used in LS - Yamahas Violin wood (I heard that on some car show with LS400) ?
I know it's real wood, but not sure if it's the same type of wood used for violins and pianos?

My wood paneling has some cracking in it. I was thinking about refinishing it, but wondered if anyone has a suggestion of what to use...

The wood will shrink and expand due to weather extremes, so what would be the ideal substance to use in this case?

It is 100% REAL WOOD! And the guy who I asked who does floor finishing suggested tung oil varnish, I think. He said it would be easy to apply, could be polished to a nice shine, and would be durable and weather resistant.
