Default Is LS400 < 2500 asking for trouble?

I am looking to possibly pick up a 91-95 LS400. While researching on Autotrader and Cars.com I came across a few that looked like really good deals at $2,500 and under. Now granted the mileage was not listed for any of them so I'm presuming that its probably at least 170k and up.That said, is an LS400 at this price range just a money-pit waiting to happen or can you really pick one up a good deal at this end of the market?

I am looking for an inexpensive Lexus to serve as a daily driver and I am really partial to RWD cars so the LS seems like the way to go.

u mean 90-94, 95 is a 2nd gen Ls. but there are deff some very well maintained 1st gens out there. just have to search everywhere caz theyr hard to come by lol. just look for one that has all maintenance records and try and find out a detailed history to c if anything went wrong and was fixed. then u caz more or less cancel out what could go wrong if it was fixed properly

If you want a CHEAP D.D. why would you want a lexus ? premium gas and 15mpg or around there at least. high mileage in that price range ........ i say if you have an extra car go for one other wise stear clear , they are very reliable but that doesnt mean it wont need a timing belt , starter , ps pump, etc. Which all on these cars are a pain in the *** job that will take you more than a couple hours to do therefore the backup would be needed. These vehicles are complex but built to last .

If you want class get the ls if you want almost class but cheap to maintain and reliable get an avalon. Of course the avalon is ugly on the outside but very nice car

Avalon gets you 21 in city if you are a lead foot and 23 if not and 27 on highway if you like to go 80 and 31 if you go 65.

The best cheap, reliable and attractive transportation is a 1993-2000 camry LE with the 4 cylinder. I had a 96 before I bought my LS400. The best gas milage I got was 498 miles on a fillup. Drove her from Richmond VA to just outside of Atlanta one one tank of gas. She had 280K on her when I sold her and the current owner has put another 20K on her since. They are very comfortable and still look great. With normal maintenance they will run forever.

I was looking to buy another camry as a DD but I just bought a 1990 Cressida. 7mge motors are junk but I am picking up a 1uz to drop in the Cressy.

an avalon is basically a luxury camry. Camry parts and drivetrain. And for the extra 2 mpg I would not get the 4 cylinder the 6 is much more satisfying to drive. I got a 99 4 cylinder camry with 178k on it and it runs great but I also have a 6 cylinder avalon and its a night and day difference. You can get an avalon for essentially the same price as a camry. BTW the camry seats suck.

I JUST GOT A 1990 ls . A good friend traded it for a civic "94 in decent shape". The original owner just wanted a gas saver was looking at the time to trade. So my boy traded it then flippe dit to me for a hella good deal cuz he owed me some cash. My 2k Celi gt-s is in the shop and I have really enjoyed the comfort and features this Lexo has!
I drive on the 405 from torrance to NEWPORT BEACH! and pay $15 round trip. It has some dents but no tears or wrecks Paint is still very glossy but does have blemshes. Finally the oem airbag has a leak on the driver side that when parked and turned off will drop much lower than the oposite side and every now & then i hear the air compressor wrking as im driving. But this think rides like a dream!! Engine purs no noises and pulls hard! Turns out the 1st owner owned a lube/service shop.

My intention was to sell it but I think im falling in love. Especially after seeing them a nice set of Deep dish 20's . Imtererior in great shape so with a lil body work and possible lip kit this car seems to have tons of potential!!!
