Default Just bought a 91 LS400

New to the LS but i did own a RHD Aristo about a year ago,
sold it, bought a Honda, but i am back to the Lexus world again.

Just picked up a 91 LS400 tonight.

I have been looking for awhile and i think i got a pretty good deal on this one.
91
163xxx miles
1 owner
t-belt, alternator, PS pump, battery and new tires all done in the last year.
VERY Clean
it needs a few things,
Climate control fix, windsheild, a good cleaning.
I picked it up for 3K

Question though
It has a pretty good fuel leak, i was just wondering if there was a know problem area with these car, i haven't had much time to search for it yet.
Its pretty bad, stinks ALOT.

Thanks for any help you guys have, i will be around alot.

Paul

First, congrats. Second, go to Lexus website and register that car (VIN required), then you can check its service history (under My Lexus) from Lexus dealerships. It's not very detailed but it should give you some idea when the car was serviced and where (and see if the last owner blew smoke at you). Third, when you say fuel leak and it smells, where do you smell it? Inside the cabin? Outside the car? Under the hood? Under the car? While driving? Vent on or off? Etc.. Please specify. Fuel leaks are not as visible as other fluid leaks because of evaporation. But if you isolate the place/situation that stinks the most, then it will help isolate your leak.

Hey man! welcome to softey LS400 world! I lived in Calgary for two years with my 93 Celsior and let me tellyou, get serious snow tires. I had 255/40/17 pilot alpins and they got me stuck in 2in of snow. Get something like a 205/65/16 with serious deep tread that is a full snow and ice tire or be prepared to suffer as I did!

Check to see if the fuel is actually leaking out of the car or its just the smell, which could be the EGR.

welcome to squishy car land! check out the youtube video on WheelerDealers fix up on the ls400, they modernize the look nicely, helps the old man image of the earlier ls400's!

Thanks guys
I had a chance to look it over a bit more today, turns out the leak is just Injector seals, ordered them up and will pop them in tomorrow.
I will look into the VIN check.
Snow tire and new this winter and ready to go.

Car is very different from the Aristo but similar in alot of ways too,
So far so good.
