Hi Earl and Bj,I have had my ls for 18 months. The main reason for the ls was the handling to avoid kangaroos and the pace to outrun Emus .The only replacements I have had to do were Steering rack(2nd hand but can be rebuilt for about $A800) and Air compressor Broken shaft.(bloody hot down here!) Replaced front struts because of a rattle in front end(and 320000K's on the clock) Rattle is still thereand handling is still the same......Just can't break these darlings......All our judgments have been vindicated by the LS being named Car of the Decade and topping most other awards around the globe.I intend to keep mine in concourse condition and sell it back to the Japs in 2020 for twice what I paid for it! Try and do that with a Beema or Merc. Joyful motoring!

I just looked...18.5 gallons is the most I have ever put into a fill-up. The gas light was on. My '91 manual says the gas tank holds 22.5 gallons. That means when the gas light comes on there is still about 4 gallons in the tank.
What's the most gas you've put in the tank on a re-fueling?

20 gallons.. I know you get scared to push all the way to the last gallon... put i heard its bad to drive to the light.. always pump at the quarter mark because you are gonna get the junk at the bottom fo the fuel tank sucked up if you drive it to the last gallons

MPG.
Not very scientific Earl. You need to fill your car up and note your mileage or set your trip meter. Then drive as you would normally until you have used at least 3/4 of the tank.Fill up again and note how much fuel is used and how far you have travelled.Divide the Miles by the gallons and you have MPG.To convert Kilo's to miles multiply the first two digits by 6.To convert litres to gallons divide by 4.5(or more exactly 4.54609)This is imperial gallons. This way you are not guessing how much is left in the tank.P.S.For those who believe there is no contamination/water in their tank,I would suggest drain it sometime, burn off the excess fuel ands see how much water is left!

junk in gas tank?
The next time someone who hates you puts sand in your gas tank, you'll be happy that there is a drain at the bottom. However, if you think that there is crap at the bottom of the tank (apparently crap doesn't float) then clean the thing out. It's really easy to take out through the trunk- it's behind the rear seat. The reason you're not supposed to take it to the empty light is so you don't run the fuel pump dry. If anything like dust or flies gets into your tank- remember the tank is not full of water, it's gasoline. It'll break everything down into a nice musch for your fuel filter to eat. Seriously though, when was the last time a bug made it's way down your gas tank pipe?

Having killed 4 fuel pumps due to driving below 1/8 tank, I fill the car up right away. Having gone through that, my tank didn't have too much sediment.
It was times like that I wish the fuel pumps were good at pulling as I would have installed an external unit. I dunno which I like more, the external lower gas tank or trunk mounted gas tank. At least if you spill gas, it is contained outside; on a trunk mount, yuck.
The better lesson, don't drive below 1/4.

mileage & reserve fuel
I'm surprised nobody has commented on the ACCURACY of our fuel gauges. I have never seen or owned a car with a gauge that reads so accurately before. I know that 100 miles per 1/4 tank (on the gauge) is "21.something" mpg. Since my "normal" is 22-23 mpg (have kept track of every fill up) that means that the reserve light comes on at 400 miles and there is a 100 mile reserve. Average mileage on a road trip is 27-28 mpg. Of course your mileage might be less, I have a steady foot and avoid speeds in excess of 140mph most of the time.
Those of you with low fuel tanks concerns: As a Honda Parts/Service manager for 10 years I can assure you that running down to the reserve light won't hurt anything if your fuel supply/quality is consistent. Adding methanol-laced fuel to a car that has had a steady diet of 100% gasoline can be a problem however.
Many a car was towed into our shop because someone used to getting 100% gasoline got a tank full of 90% gas/10% methanol. What this does is dissolve a different assortment of "stuff" than straight gasoline does... sending it straight down the fuel line to stress the fuel pump and plug the filter.
An unscrupulous shop might replace the fuel pump in that case when all you (normally) need is a new fuel filter.

LOVE THIS CAR!
