Gas mileage...good-bad (The Mother thread)

The computer said 26.4 and I got 26.5 after a complete tank. That was almost all highway which I expect is easier for the computer to calculate, but atleast it is a data point. I can post again in a week or so when it's time to calculate almost all city driving (very little WFO).

Alright sorry to jack the thread but my 99 does give me crappy mileage too
Hi,
Sorry to post here as didnt want to open a new thread about mpg and thereby posted here... my apologies if that was wrong.
I have a 1999 LS400 with 153k miles and changed the TB, coolant sensor, Oxygen sensors (all 4), fuel filter, plugs, oil changed to synthetic and other fluids all replaced. My mileage with initial change of oxygen sensors was coming to nearly 29 on highways and average close to 19 with mixed driving mostly highway. Now it went to 15. Could it be because of the tires or what else as it is annoying to spend so much money on it and still not get good mpg from it. Any ideas will be appreciated. It is with stock rim and tire size.
Thx.

Thx for the reply... the timing is correct as my mechanic checked it and I saw it too a few days ago and the mpg was still bad. Forgot to mention that AC is always on as the weather is above 45 degrees centigrade here in the UAE and rarely below 40. So could that be a reason and my rpms never go above 3 when I accelerate the car. Besides that I think tires that I will change soon. Anything else needs to be changed too and thats what I wanted to know or only tires will suffice? Thx again!

I get 400 average on every tank, more in strait highway driving with a high of 520 or so on my 95. it has 170.000 on the clock. My 96 gets 300-320 a tank and it has 158,000.

99 mpg
This is the best average I was able to maintain while on the highway flat and very little uphill. Probably 20 miles of this before the terrain changed and it dropped down to 28.5 mpg. Under ideal conditions you can average pretty close to 30 mpg.
The best I can average in city the city is 19. The air is always on here. Heat index today is 105.

tank average is a better representation once you're near the end of a tank.

I was only able maintain that average under this 20 miles of ideal conditions. My regular average is much lower because I don't spend much time on the highways. Living in the metro areas means 85% city diving here. Kind of crazy compared to the states. It is impressive though. I mean, put her in power mode and start driving her like she wants to be driven and she will get 15 in the city, maybe...

i'm averaging 22mpg combined, but then i have a 97 (one less gear than you 98-up folks). i find it funny that even if i cruise at 80mph, with an occasional 100+mph sprint i tend to average more at 23-24mpg. also i noticed no adverse difference in mpg having the "ECT PWR" button on or off, so i have it on all the time.

i ran a K&N filter for a minute and saw better mpg on highways, but worse on city. combined was about 22-23 with around 60% highway.
switched back to OEM filter and got better city mpg but worse highway. combined is 21.

I ocassionally use a gas mileage booster sold at dollar tree for $1
And without fail it boosts my mpg by atleast 1 whenever I use it.
Last tank was 24.7 mpg with the fuel conditioner and with the exact same driving habits Im lucky to get 23.5 normally.
Seems well worth a doller to me
