I check my mpg routinely whenever I fill up. I got 19.8 mpg with mostly city driving during the past week. Usually, I'm getting somewhere between 19 to 25 mpg depending on how many highway miles I drive during the week. The good gas mileage is yet another feature that makes owning these cars a great deal.

Question about gas mileage
Hi all... I'm usually in the ES forum. Anyways, my friend was talking about the LS400, and he said that it saves more gas compared to the ES300. I was surprised because I thought that a V8 would guzzle up more gas than a V6. But I just want to know how many miles you guys get per gallon. And I'm begining to build interest in the LS. Thanks.

Like a 92. He has owned both the 92 ES and 92 LS. He's a car guy (he knows like almost everything about tuning and maintenance). He also stated that the LS were least likely to break down compared to the ES. Then I talked to a mechanic who towed my ES once, and he also noted that the LS seemed to last "forever" like over 200K, and the ES's are always breaking down near 200K. (More like the LS has less mechanical problems than a ES)

well the 1uz engine is practically indestructible if u have the maintenance done properly. and id think the ES would have better gas mileage since u guys got the 3liter and we got the 4liter. my car gets like 12-13 depending how i drive but that also includes the tune up that i havent done yet...

Yea, I guess if you think about, it all adds up to proper maintainance. Then I hear from the SC guys say that SC400s had better mileage than SC300s... but that could be a different story.

I don't own an LS yet, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me, but I'm actively shopping and have driven several recently (checking the cumulative mpg reading), and have also researched here and elsewhere for discussions on what people really get. Seems like at least 95+ LS's get around 19 in real world mixed use driving, and in the mid-20's on the highway. I test drove 2 98 LS's today, and both showed a little over 19 mpg on their computers. I don't know about ES's, but I've also done some looking at GS's; at least the GS 400's seems to get somewhat less. Perhaps the gearing, or perhaps LS drivers have a lighter foot. I would have assumed that the LS weighs more, and would thus get worse mileage. This is one reason I am leaning toward an LS.

98-00 city/hwy= ~19-20/25
these were my general MPG rates on current LS' and my old 95.
assuming good overall condition of car and etc...

The '95-'97 numbers are too low for average drivers. I don't get particularly good mileage but I'm closer to the ones you listed for '98-'00 models.

Initial indications for my recently acquired 1998 LS with 146K are over 28 mpg for about 95% highway (at 65 to 80 mph, half with AC), with a light foot for acceleration. With that 5th gear it runs at just over 2500 rpm at 80 mph. Some here have reported 30 mpg on longer trips (search gas mileage). But some get less.
In town, judging from the current gas mileage readout that monitors how much fuel you're using at a given moment, it matters a lot how fast you accelerate, but it does surprisingly well.
One reason I favored the LS over other options was that it appears to get the best mileage of anything remotely comparable, if you want it to. Of course, it's premium fuel.

I used to own a 2004 mitsu eclipse with 3.0 V6, that car gets 20-21 mpg on average. now I'm driving a 94 ls400, the same route, I'm getting roughly the same 20-21 mpg from a 4.0 V8 (and much heavier), I'm not complaining.
