first gen ls400 bi-xenon headlight retrofit
planning phase for this project was about ... a year. Objective of this project is to improve drivability at night time for a 20 year old car
The options are:
- new OEM headlights @$500 on ebay: good option with OEM look but cost is high but still halogen performance
- xenon bulb upgrade for existing headlights: cheap and easy but poor cut off, easily get beatten by other drivers :-)
- bi-xenon projector retrofit: seems like the best solution, cost similar to new OEM headlights but at "new technology" xenon performance
and i decided to go with last option.
Ingredients:
i want the best performance, i say no with cheap stuff but go with OEM parts whenever possible
Projectors:
BMW E46/M3 Mercedes S/CL Bi-Xenon HID PROJECTORS 3" OEM ($70/ pairs not incl. S&H and tax)
headlights:
eagle eye brand (made in Taiwan, $194) quality is so so but best fit for this project. seems the only option so far i know
Ballast:
matsu****a ($80)
bulb:
philips 4300k ($70)
i bought headlights and projectors off ebay, other items are sourced locally. price is estimation
(more to come)

I've been eyeballing the projectors from the old Infiniti J30s. There are plenty of them in the Pick A Parts, and it shouldn't be that hard to pry them out.
Let's see those cutoff pixs and how these look in the housing. I'm particularly interested in the high beam solenoid.

sorry i am not in CA now, should have changed profile location.
now, behind the scene
back view (sorry some pix are bad as taken at night time, wrong focus)
back end made of plastic water piping
a closer look
cap is on and taped to provent water getting in. also easy to open to replace bulb
hope you are given an idea of how it was made. i dont have pix when he inserted projector to the housing. a friend of mine (94LS400) will do this retrofit soon, i will try to take some pix when he does it.
