Default 1991 Air Suspension Struts

I'm going to need to deal with a (slowly) leaking air bag soon and I've begun to consider the various solutions (used part, rebuilt part, new part, convert to non-air). I've seen some listings for used air struts in which the seller claims that the left and right sides are interchangeable. I suspect that this may not be the case since Lexus lists four different part numbers:

1990-1992 LS400
48010-50010 right front
48020-50010 left front
48080-50010 right rear
48090-50010 left rear

I can see from the illustrations that the front and rear are definitely different but it is not clear whether the left and right sides are interchangeable.

I'd be interested to hear what knowledgable folks have to say on the interchangeablility.

Further searching turned up opinions that the left and right sides are interchangeable. Still, it seems odd that Lexus would maintain two different part numbers for identical parts. On the other hand, perhaps they're not identical but can be interchanged nonetheless.

You could've just continued this thread. I'm pretty sure most, if not all, knowledgeable guys have pitched in with their comments.

Yes, they do have different part numbers, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are any different from side to side or that they couldn't be used on the "wrong" side.

I still haven't pulled the trigger and bought the "wrong" side strut I mentioned in the thread, but if/when I do, I will definetely post the results in there.
