Default LS400 power antenna mast replacement

Hi all,
found a replacement mast at Pep Boys for 19.99. It was a replacement for Toyota and the part number on it is: CK-pwrty866. I have 1991 LS400 with 210000 miles. The replacement mast I have seen on the internet for around 50 bucks. I figured Ill share my day of searching and trying different parts. Finally it payed off. Works like a champ!

I'd like to take the liberty to bump this. I was actually JUST at PepBoys getting oil and filters for my LS and the girl's Focus (funny, they both use the same filter) and I saw this mast, I thought to myself "I wonder if this would work"

Thanks!

After the first and second one broke on initial retraction, I went with a different eBayer which looked basically the same but worked. It's very frustrating to have to get in the trunk, remove the antenna assembly and disassemble to fish out the broken piece. I'm glad the third one worked as I was dreading the thought of having to do it again.

I guess the old saying is true, you get what you pay for.

Haha, well, I suppose if Lexus can't do it right, why would whoever manufactures that eBay part for $3 be able to :P

The one i've bought has worked so far. And i too had to get into the trunk. I actually found it very easy, belive it or not. I printed out the tutorial on Lexls and then took it outside with me for reference, and then i only had to look at it once. Very straight forward repair. There is one thing i've liked so far on this car, everything i've had to wrench on has been either 8, 10, or 12 mm. Very simple. I know it would be a different story if i was doing open heart surgery on her, but i don't plan on that anytime soon.

Oh, one thing i don't like, but i'm sure this is more to do with the aftermarket stereo, the antenna goes up as long as the stereo is on, even if you're listening to a CD, whereas on my mom's 91, the antenna only goes up if you're listening to the radio, but if you change the source, it goes back down. She still has the factory radio in hers. Mine is a JVC, and i am guessing that's the difference.

FYI, I went through 2 of the PepBoys ones last week. One broke on the first retraction, the second one lasted half a day

Mine busted 7 years ago and all I do is leave it up I travel from 100 to 250 miles a day seeing customers selling satellite componets I have 265,000 miles and the car runs as strong today as it did with 20,000 miles so for me to replace mine is a waste I stop and stop the car 8-12 times a day it won't last long what is also amazing I finally put in a starter from Lexus at 260,000 MILES starting the car aound 10 times a day TALK ABOUT QUALITY the cost don't ask

After going through 2 Pep Boys ones I laid down $75 for an OEM from the dealer and works like a charm. One thing I noticed is with the OEM it adjusts height depending on the radio station selected. The others did not do that and maybe why they broke right away.
