93 ls 400
I am looking at seriously purchasing a 1993 LS 400 w/ 125xxx miles. No reported issues, runs strong, no reall issues. I am a total newb to Toyota/Lexus brand and was wondering what to look for if anything?

Well, from my understanding - the 93-94 years of the First Generation LS had practically all the bugs fixed in comparison to the 90-92.
Well, firstly, please check the following: (as they may be expensive to fix)
-Power Steering for Leaks [Pump/Rack/High Pressure Hose]
-Suspension [Shock Struts/Springs/Front Ball Joints/Strut Bar Cushion]
-Any Electrical Problems [Maybe the Instrument Cluster?]
-A/C System [Still cold air? - A/C Unit display works?]
-Any Check Engine Light Codes [Sensors tend to fail - the car is 16 years old]
-Any Maintenance Records [Timing Belt/Water Pump/Spark Plugs/Drive Belt]
If all else fails, you can look at www.lexls.com
Thats all i can think of at the moment...
From what ive seen, these cars have one or two issues max at a time...
Goodluck!
PS: You can hire someone to do a thorough check of the car to make sure everything is good.

having bought a 92 myself recently i'll tell you what i learned ahead of time as well as what i learned afterwards.
1) check if the idle valve on the ps pump is intact, bypassed, etc. look for leaks under the ps pump and listen for noise from the pump/alternator. anything wrong here is a $100-400 diy job.
2) check everything electrical. gauge functions ($ ?), needle lighting ($ ?), cc display ($100 fix).
3) audio. fade/balance fl/fr/rl/rr to make sure all speakers are working. also check rear deck sub (mine was completely rotted out).
4) check the taillights. theres a trunk wire issue that should be an easy (free-ish) diy fix, but mine had some other issue that is still unresolved.
kinda nit-picky but that's where my issues were and could give you leverage on another $1000 or so.
other than that: general inspection items such as fluids/bushings/suspension/stearing/brakes/warning lights/etc. and maintenance records to confirm the timing belt has been changed (water pump and fan bracket were bonuses on mine).
i also paid for a lexus inspection ($200) after purchase to give me a complete rundown of items that needed varying levels of attention.
coming off a first gen q45 i gotta say the ls400 has relatively few and inexpensive problems.

What kind of mileage did you all have when you made the purchase? What kind of mileage does the car have currently? Just trying to get an idea. I was torn between a 97 Q45 or the 93 LS400. Is there a sticky for maintenence, ie., timing belt, waterpump? Thanks for the help!
