Default New LS4 owner here with a tech question?

Hey guys,

i just bought an ls400 today in great condition well i didnt buy it i traded my old car straight up for it, but ran into an issue shortly after i brought it home. I was playing with buttons and pressed the traction control button and after i went to press it again the "trac off" light wont come off, also the check engine light came on right after i pressed it?? Owners manual said it was an electrical issue, Im wondering if my local parts store has the ability to check the code and if there is any light you can shed on the "trac off" light not turning off?

I want to say thanks in advance as well...

also here is a picture of her as i got her: 91 LS400 w/air ride suspension. engine looks brand new with ZERO dirt or build up and the inside looks like its in its first 5 years of life.

Welcome to the club and congrats on your purchase.

I'm not sure about the Trac light not turning off but to read the CEL code, instructions found here:

http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html

The lexls.com site (and here) will be your friend as you get acquainted with your car.

I think it would definately be an electrical issue. I don't know if this will help but my Trac off and engine lights are on and it is due to the plug being unhooked on my AFM (or as some people call it "MAF" sensor) I'm pretty sure you're gonna have to check the code yourself. Seeing how you just got the car it could have been doing this and the guy didn't say anything. This light might just pop on intermitantly and You might just have to reset it.
Nice purchase on the car though, looks good. How many miles on it and what did you trade for it?

Thanks for taking the time to help answer my questions, the car has just over 180,xxx on the clock and i traded a s13 240sx hatch back for her...I needed more room then I had and I also had been interested in getting a ls4. It all worked out in the end and we both got what we wanted.

I'm going to get a service manual today and try to pin point the problem.

Good luck on finding a service manual. I paid about $175 for mine off Ebay. (used, in excellent condition) The first thing I buy after getting a new car is the manual. I needed it when I did my timing belt and many, many other things. It was the best 200 I ever spent. Although I still run into problems that aren't covered, but well worth it.
