It "melts" (I don't know better english term).
In pharmacies here you can't buy 100% alcohol but only weaker than that, and that's the one I used (70% alcohol)
On the door window switch there is the same plastic (with wood texture) as in the center console around gear leaver...nothing happened to it, it is still like new

Thanks to all those whose valid suggestions just saved me a bunch on my '94 LS400 with a cup of iced coffee down the shifter. A little disassembly, a little compressed air, and a little denatured alcohol made the problem go away. 15 minutes of surfing, 15 minutes of fixing, and $xxx in my pocket and not the dealer's. THANKS!
