Buying a LS400??
Wow,this looks like a great source of info.
Glad I found it and I will be searching the archives shortly; but are there any particular items to look for in a 97 400??
I can turn a wrench, but my experience is with 4 wheel drive Range Rovers....when they're not broken down.

Yes, a quick search will return a myriad of answers to your questions.
If you could give the odometer readout, that too would be helpful.
I bought my '97 three years ago with around 96,000 miles on it. The only issue I had was when my fuel pump bit the dust two years ago. Cost me roughly $750 to have it repaired at a Toyota dealer.
Oh and my interior trunk release lever stopped working about a week ago.
Other than that, very solid car, and I absolutely love it

Thanks!
The car is a 97 LS400, one owner(who is the person selling it), 136K.
I've just read a thread concerning timing belts being replaced every 90K or 6 years.
This car had its belt changed at 81K in Sep. '01, so it's under the mileage reccomendation but over in years past due for replacement.
Is it common to do the WP with the belt since it is behind?
Oh, it also had the steering rack replaced a year ago.
Thanks again, I'll need to spend a few nights reading up on these cars...

Well, I bought the Lexus.
Very clean, kept in underground condo garage.
Original owner since new, nice elderly couple in their 80's who spend half their time in FL.
Car rode very smooth for the 2.5 hour drive home.
I'll be catching up on a lot of Lexus threads now....
