Default Radiator Fan is sounding like a big rig truck.

It justed started about three days ago. I thought i had a big rig behind but i pulled off the interstate and got back i notice it was coming from my car. When I got home i open the hood and heard the loud noise coming from the radiator fan.

Any ideas what is causing this? Is it time to replace the cluch and fan? or go electric?

Is it ok to drive like this until i can replace it (takes a fews to days to order)?

Sounds like you blew the clutch fan bracket(common failure on the LS with some age). Need to replace. Would not continue to continue driving in this manner until your replace. Do a search under "fan bracket" and you will see many threads already discussed on this subject.

It will seize & could then possibly break your timing belt.
It will definitely strand you.

OEM part # 16307-50011 for my 94 LS.

Just so you know. It can be 2 things, Bracket bearing or the fan clutch bearing. Bracket is expensive but the clutch is cheap.

Try to wiggle the fan and see if the shaft moves with it, if it does you need a bracket, else, just the fan clutch.

The part # I gave above is for the "bracket support for fan".

I took out the bearing in my old bracket once it had seized & it sounded like a big salt shaker. Bearing only replacement is not an option.

Bali26,

If I move the fan and the fan bracket moves with it then, it's the fan bracket?

Bali26,

So if I move the fan and the fan bracket also moves, then it's the fan bracket?

Bracket can't move, its bolted on. The shaft will move, meaning bracket bearing is bad. If shaft doesn't move but just the fan clutch does, then its the clutch bearing.

If you replace the bracket, might as well buy a new clutch too, its like $60.

Theres a tutorial on lexls.com to remove bracket.

Exclamation Its not the fan bracket

Whoa guys, its not the fan bracket, the fan clutch is the problem which is making the loud noise because it is spinning extra fast due to the failure. The fan bracket is bad when your hear it spinning loose like its missing screws. If you want to go ahead and change both knock yourself out you will eventually have to anyway.

Hey guys thanks for all of your help. I have to agree Lexozz. The fan bracket move freely with no noise at all. My noise isn't loud screws or bearings but the fan running REAL fast and when i rev up the engine it sounds even louder but no squeaking noise.

So i am going to ordered both but only installing the clutch, that's easier.

Carlos
