LS40 1st gen headlight questions
2 questions:
So when I got my '91 LS, the corner headlights on both sides were out, and that's kind of what i was used to for the first year of having my car. Then when I got my car serviced I asked them to check it out and they said they'd fix it.
Now the passenger side front corner light is out again, however the driver's side front corner light (sorry about my terminology) has this faint glow, and i'm not sure if that's normal or it should be any brighter?
I know it shouldn't be matching the brightness of my headlights, but the glow is barely visible, is this just how the front corner lights are supposed to look?
2nd question, how caaan i get my headlights to have a cooool blue glow like thissss? http://lextreme.com/pul/1.jpg

If you are looking at the corner lights with your headlights on, then they should look pretty faint in your eyes. That's just how they are supposed to be.
What you see in the pics isn't a glow but the reflection of hyperwhite (blue-coated) halogen bulbs off the headlight housing. Just get a set of hyper white halogen bulbs (with the same wattage as your OEM bulbs) for your car and it will give that same appearance when they're off.

The bulbs for the front corners are 194/168. These are relatively dim, especially compared to the headlights. During the daytime, you pretty much just see a dot of light, and at nighttime, they'd be yellow-white in color, but they don't really illuminate much.
The passenger side is most likely out because the bulb is either a bit loose, a dirty connector, or the bulb is burnt. All it takes is a screwdriver for the single screw up top, and some pulling to remove the corners. The screw is easy to spot, since it's right beside the corner with the hood up. After the screw is out, the light should be somewhat movable at the front edge. Just hold it and pull towards the side and it should pop out.

The corner lights are just 194's. Nothing that's supposed to illuminate the night sky. They're just "parking" lights.
IMO The blue look of those headlights are ghetto and ricey. Get a set of Silverstars, or Silverstar ULTRAs
..oh yeah, and light output of those "hyper white" bulbs are not usually very good.

Do you by chance have a pic of your lights at night and the spec's on yours (4300k etc...) ? I'm assuming its the lense on the first gen that scatters the light? How much improvement is there over a standard or Silverstar bulb? You lose the highbeams too, correct?
Thanks

it depends on the kit u get. they make a hi/low halogen kit which the the hid is the low beam and the halogen is the high beam which is what i have.
they also make hi/low kits where both low and high beam r hid bulbs

I use a so called bixenon kit which is a HID with heavy shield and a moving bulb. Glare is minimal because of the shield and the cutoff is really good considering that the lens is not a clear lens.
The bulb moves within the shield to switch to high beam; when it moves back (electromagnet) it is exposed through a hole at the bottom of the shield. It works great, and the high beams are actually useful unlike the ones with the halogen highs that I had before these.
