Default New paint questions

I have a Pearl White 1993 LS 400 that i would like to repaint to black or red on 2008 LS 460; My question is what specific kind of paint are those and how much does it cost to purchase the specific or similar paint that would make new paint job look as showroom ready as possible? Additionally where can I purchase paint kit without going to dealer?

Hey Books,

I'm not sure about the east coast but here in SoCal we have quite a few paint vendors that you can purchase high quality automotive paint from without having to go through the dealer.

I would think that they would have what you need.

try to find your local paint supplier.. most likely, there will be a lot, because of the different brands, and each shop will be distributors of each. such brands are dupont, sherwin williams, sikkens, nason, ppg, etc... if you plan on doing this yourself, do you got experience doing autobody and paint? you dont want to spend $1000 + on a paint system and you wont get as good a outcome as you think... there are so many factors, it isnt funny... price wise, i dont know what the local laws are there, but there are water base paints, and solvent base paints. a whole paint system, primer sealer, primer sealer activator (if applicable), basecoat, basecoat reducer, basecoat activator (if applicable), clearcoat, clearcoat reducer(if applicable), clearcoat hardener, strainers should be free, mixing sticks should be free, tack rags, paint thinner.... anywhere from $600 (also depending on color) all the way up to $2000+....

you can also go to any good bodyshop and ask them what their distributors are...

Up here (Ontario, Canada), it's now law that you must use a paint booth with the ventilation up to certain specs. It's putting alot of crappy shops out of business. No DIY painting up here.

Gents

Thanks for assistance; I am having bodyshop do the work but they said can save me $$$ by me purchasing paint myself but I want to spend a maximum of $400.00 on paint and still be able to get best possible paint available. Quotes I have received so far are in $1000 neighborhood.
