Default Help seat belt retractors

Being new owner of a 91 LS400 I do not know how well the seat belts are (quickly) supose to retract, mine retract slowly and it helps if I help push them in.
I have taken out all the seats and this would be good time to work on retractors if this is not normal. Is there something short of replacing them with new ones to make them retract faster and stronger or, are they electric or just normall slow, or can oil / grease them and make them go faster?
Thanks on my way to rejuvenate an old uncared for LS400

this is due to dirt on the belt itself and the rollers. search for more info. i have grown to just push it up but sometimes it gets caught on the door and i wonder why its so short lol.

I posted some pics when I replaced my passenger side seat belt on the "other" forum: HERE.

It also has a link to a thread that tells you how to fix the tension.

No, they don't have a motor. They retract by tension.

After going back and looking at the pics I posted I wondered what the electrical wire was all about. Apparently it's used to control the tension "speed" as described here:

Try disconnecting the wire as suggested to see if that helps. It's worth a shot before buying a new one.

Hello folks here is an update:
I went to a U Pull It yard and removed a set of frt belts from a 93 for my 91 and guess what?
IT DOES NOT WORK! the elecric connector at bottom of retractor is totally different !!!
so now I will try the disconnect way BTW instead of removing B pillar and unplugging the connector, I thought disconnecting battery would have same effect. I had to disconnect it to replace steering wheel! AND btw the steering wheel out of a 93 is different also! It fits BUT you have to use their own two little covers that give access to screws to remove airbag(why battery diconnect) and ALSO the air bag is slightly different so you must use Airbag that was on the 93 steering wheel.
Tomorrow night will try the stretching out of belts without power and if no improvement will disconnect electric connector and if that does not work P...; on it!
Thanks for the continued thread.
